Sightseeing
Regardless of how long you will be in Lisbon, we suggest you include the following in your adventures:
1) Wander the Baixa
The Baixa is the historic city center of Lisbon. It is one of the few places that is mostly flat and built in a grid so it is relatively easy to get around. There are tons of amazing historical sites to see along with shops, restaurants, and cafes where you can take a break and enjoy a SuperBock, Sagres or glass of Vinho Verde. Highlights include the Praça do Comércio (Commerce Square), the Arco da Rua Augusta, Elevador de Santa Justa, Rossio Square (aka Pedro IV Square), Praça da Figueir, Praça dos Restauradores and Avenida da Liberdade.
2) Enjoy Portuguese Food & Fado
There are many options to choose from if you want to enjoy the typical Portuguese food while listening to Fado performers. We suggest you find a small, authentic place where you can meet and talk with locals - Alfama and the Bairro Alto are a good place to find them.
3) Wander the Alfama
This is the oldest, most confusing but spectacular part of the city so it is best to just keep walking and see what you happen to find versus having a specific plan. It is also very steep and will usually require walking up and down many stairways and cobbled streets so be prepared by having very comfortable walking shoes on. The highlights include the Sé de Lisboa, Museu do Teatro Romano, Castelo de São Jorge (St. George's Castle), and Igreja de Santa Engrácia.
